Comet Lemmon brightens

Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6) is moving quickly through northern skies, currently in the constellation Leo Minor and visible to the east in the predawn hours, around 20 degrees to the right of the Big Dipper asterism. Astroimager Chris Schur caught the comet Sept. 30 displaying a dust fan and a nearly 3°-long tail. He took one hour of exposure on an 8-inch f/2 RASA scope. Despite having brightened to magnitude 6.6, Schur says it was “nowhere close” to being visible to the naked eye. But if the comet’s current trend continues, it could become so later this month, especially around New Moon.
