At 25, the Hubble Space Telescope continues to astound the public with stunning images from our celestial neighbor out to farthest reaches of the universe. Many scientists and image processing specialists have played critical roles in these portraits of the cosmos, but none of it would be possible without the 28 astronauts who visited, repaired, and upgraded Hubble over the course of five servicing missions between 1993 and 2009. Astronomy — especially Senior Editor Richard Talcott — covered most of the missions extensively. Relive each triumph with excerpts from the magazine below.
