Galaxies collide in Andromeda

Computer simulations show the Andromeda Galaxy is consuming what was the seventh-largest galaxy in the Local Group.

Despite being some 13 billion years old, our Milky Way Galaxy still has a healthy appetite. Detailed observations of our home galaxy show several streams of stars — relics of dwarf galaxies being devoured by the Milky Way’s strong gravity.
