Fly through the nearby universe

A southern-sky survey mapped more than 110,000 nearby galaxies to show cosmic structure.

The Six-Degree Field Galaxy Survey (6dFGS) is a project run by an international collaboration of astronomers. They used the Anglo-Australian Observatory’s UK Schmidt Telescope (1.2-meter diameter) over 6 years to map the nearby universe.
