In the Americas, this is a morning eclipse. It begins at 8h43m Universal Time (UT) with a subtle penumbral dimming, followed by the partial phase at 9h49m UT as Earth’s shadow visibly creeps across the lunar surface. Totality — when the Moon turns a striking copper red — runs from 11h03m to 12h02m UT, or 6:03 a.m. to 7:02 a.m. EST.

Observers across North and South America, Asia, and Australia will be able to see at least some of the event. Unfortunately, those in the Eastern time zone will find the Moon setting before or shortly after totality begins, and the next total lunar eclipse favorable for the U.S. won’t come until 2029.

For a front-row seat regardless of your location or weather, astrophotographer SunshineNate is hosting a free livestream from Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, sponsored by telescope maker ZWO. The broadcast will feature live expert commentary and is available on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. ZWO is also giving away a Seestar S30 Pro Smart Telescope — no purchase necessary.

Head to sunshinenate.com for details on how to watch the eclipse live on March 3 and to ZWO’s site for details on how to enter.
