Thor’s Helmet (NGC 2359) is an emission nebula in Canis Major roughly 12,000 light-years distant. At its center lies a Wolf-Rayet star, a type of star with extremely powerful winds, which are interacting with surrounding gas and dust to form the complex structure seen here. This HOORGB image represents 7 hours of exposure with a 9.25-inch scope.
