The Moon slides into Scorpius: This Week in Astronomy with Dave Eicher

By | Published: July 24, 2023

Hi folks, tune in every week of 2023 for the best in astronomy from Astronomy Editor Dave Eicher, brought to you by Celestron. Dave’s weekly video series will cover all the latest sky events, scientific results, overviews of cosmic mysteries, and more!

This week, the Moon will be in the constellation Scorpius, one of the brightest regions of the Milky Way. On Friday, July 28, the Moon will be just 1.3° away from the Antares, the red supergiant often called the heart of the scorpion. (Antares is also surrounded by nebulosity that is part of the Rho Ophiuchi cloud complex, which was recently imaged by the James Webb Space Telescope.) It will be a great scene for visual observers, those with binoculars or a telescope, and astroimagers alike.
