Venus remains the highlight of May evenings. The planet shines brilliantly above the western horizon and sets nearly 4 hours after the Sun. Mercury pops up for its best evening show this year. Saturn, high in the southwest at dusk, remains visible past midnight. Jupiter rises before Saturn sets, which makes a perfect excuse to grab a scope and do some planetary observing.
