Christopher Newman is Professor of Space Law and Policy at Northumbria University. He is academic adviser to 3S Northumbria, a space situational awareness company, which had no role in this article. He has previously received funding from the UK Space Agency and Innovate UK, but currently receives no relevant external funding. He is on the board of advisors for the Open Lunar Foundation, and a full member of the International Institute of Space Law.
