On the fringes of the Carina Nebula lies emission nebula IC 2599, surrounding the open cluster NGC 3324 (at center). Combined, the two objects comprise the Gabriela Mistral Nebula, named for its resemblance to the Nobel Prize-winning Chilean poet. The star cluster at left is NGC 3293. The imager used a 5-inch scope to take 3¾ hours of exposure with a one-shot color camera.
