Photo Submission Guidelines
Astronomy magazine and Astronomy.com accept digital images for publication.
Submit images via email as attached JPG files to readergallery@astronomy.com. TIFF files are also accepted if the file is small enough to be sent by email. For initial submissions, we always prefer a full-resolution JPG as a direct attachment instead of (or, at least, in addition to) a TIFF sent via a cloud service. We will follow up if a higher-quality file is needed.
Include with each image:

- Photographer’s name, mailing and email addresses, and phone number
- Date, time, and location the image was taken
- Camera and telescope used
- Megapixel size of camera
- Telescope or lens aperture and focal ratio
- exposure time(s), ISO setting, and filters used
Include all image data in the email body.
The photos we accept will be filed for possible future use in the magazine, in Reader Gallery and other stories. Photos submitted for Astronomy magazine also will be considered for website use. By submitting your images to Astronomy, you grant continuous rights for our usage of images in Astronomy magazine, on the internet, and in promotional materials.
Although the photo may remain in our files for future use, you maintain mutual usage rights unless we make other mutually agreeable arrangements.
