Phillips used a 4-inch Takahashi FSQ refractor at f/5.3 and SBIG ST-10XME CCD camera. The image is the product of LRGB processing - 9 luminance images at 5 minutes each, 3, 5-minute red, 3, 5-minute green, and 3, 8-minute blue exposures.
