Orion’s outline is instantly familiar but the faint hydrogen emission from Barnard’s Loop can only be appreciated in deep images, like this one taken facing Yomegashima Island on Lake Shinji in Matsue, Japan. The imager used a Sony mirrorless camera and 50mm f/1.2 lens to capture nearly 3 hours of sky exposure in 30-second subframes; 2.2 hours of that was with an Hα filter at ISO 3200, while the remainder was with a Lee No. 1 filter at ISO 200.
