NGC 2359 — better known as Thor’s Helmet — is an emission nebula some 15,000 light-years distant in Canis Major. The object surrounds a Wolf-Rayet star — a massive short-lived star with powerful winds that are expelling gas and dust from the nebula’s center. The imager took 9.7 hours of exposure with a 5-inch scope and one-shot color camera.
