Explore the Spitzer Space Telescope's greatest scientific hits
The structure of star-forming regions, the recipe of a grand design spiral galaxy, and the look of the Milky Way's center all made the list.
NASA's Michael Werner picked the images in this gallery as among the most beautiful and scientifically important products to date of the Spitzer Space Telescope. Werner has worked on the Spitzer mission since 1977, and was deeply involved in its complex path from design to launch (in 2003). He has also served as project scientist since 1984.
