This stunning image of the Horsehead Nebula was taken with the National Science Foundation's 0.9-meter telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona. Located more than 1,600 light-years away in the constellation Orion the Hunter, the Horsehead is a dense cloud of gas lying in front of a star-forming nebula called IC 434.
