A bright blob tinged blue marks a newborn compact galaxy blazing with ultraviolet light. Spotted by NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) satellite, this galaxy, plus dozens more like it, are puzzling astronomers. The galaxies are young, but they represent a kind of galaxy astronomers thought went extinct long ago.
