Astronomer Don Brownlee examines a particle from Comet Wild 2 magnified about 14,000 times by an electron microscope. Brownlee is the principal investigator for the Stardust mission, which captured material from Wild 2 and then returned it to Earth in January 2006. The data from Stardust are upsetting long-held ideas about the early solar system.
