Kasatochi’s eruption caused a gas cloud, as seen from this NASA Aura satellite image, that by August 12, 2008, had moved in a large counterclockwise loop over the Pacific Ocean, while winds sent streamers eastward across the United States and Canada. By November, the cloud had pretty much veiled the Northern Hemisphere in a weak stratospheric fog.
