Will Saunders of the Anglo-Australian Observatory imagines a relatively simple 16m telescope at Dome C. A nearly flat, steerable reflector (right) receives light from the sky and directs it onto the primary mirror (left). The primary mirror focuses light onto a prime-focus unit halfway between the two mirrors. This unit could be a camera, a device that holds optical fibers for capturing the light, or a secondary mirror reflecting light through the primary's central hole.
