After collecting data for 3 years, the WMAP team has produced a new, more detailed picture of the infant universe. The white bars show the new data: the polarization direction of light in the cosmic microwave background. The colors indicate minute temperature differences in the CMB; red corresponds to warmer temperatures, and blue corresponds to cooler temperatures.
