The false-color VIRTIS composite shows Venus' day (left) and night (right) sides. The sunlit half is a composite of images taken through various filters and shows sunlight reflected from the planet's cloud tops, about 40 miles (65 km) above the surface. The night half reveals the planet in the infrared and chiefly shows bright spiral cloud structures in the lower atmosphere, about 34 miles (55 km) high.
