The Prime Focus Imaging Spectrograph (PFIS) sits in its testing facility at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Weighing only half a ton, the device is much smaller than previous spectrographs. The PFIS will sit atop the Southern African Large Telescope. Testing of the spectrograph-telescope combination will begin in April.
