On August 11, 2000, the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) instrument aboard the IMAGE spacecraft captured this view of Earth's magnetosphere from above the north pole. A hook-shaped "tail" of plasma reaches toward the top of the image. The faint, glowing circle near the center of the image is the ultraviolet glow of the aurora. The sun is beyond the upper right corner of this image.
