Spiral galaxy M106, discovered in 1781 by Pierre Méchain, is located about 25 million light-years away. M106 is found halfway between Chara and Phecda, marking the Dipper's southeastern corner.
In August 1981, Supernova 1981K occurred in M106, reaching 16th magnitude.
Galaxy NGC 4248 is located to the right of M106.
