Animation shows the energetic region near a massive object's point of no return.

| Joern Wilms of Tübingen University, Germany, and an international team of astronomers created the animation below from data supplied by the European Space Agency's X-ray Multi-Mirror Mission (XMM-Newton) satellite. XMM-Newton observed a supermassive black hole in the core of a galaxy named MCG-6-30-15. |
