StarDome PLUS: Calendar
The StarDome PLUS Calendar tab lets you see a month's astronomical events at a glance.
By default, the Calendar shows the Moon's phases (New, First Quarter, Full, Last Quarter) and its changing daily appearance. Each image represents the Moon's phase at noon for the currently selected time zone.
You can optionally display:
- the times of equinoxes and solstices, which mark the start seasons
- rise, transit, and set times for all planets (including Pluto)
- and the start and end times for varying degrees of twilight
Calendar's Options panel includes arrows to skip forward and back at either one-month or one-year intervals. You can turn off either daily Moon phases or all Moon phases using the checkbox controls.
The dropdown list lets you select the type of event shown. To save space, we've abbreviated terms like "rise," "twilight begins," and "spring equinox," but the legend at bottom explains them.
There are three levels of twilight to choose from: civil, nautical, and astronomical. For a detailed explanation of these terms, refer to the U.S. Naval Observatory's web site.
