Always read the reviews on Amazon and B&H photo before you buy. The high megapixial sensors pickup imperfections in the lens & that's your photo. Also if your camera needs repaired Canon's flat fee is $200 just to look at it...Yikes. DSLR's are not up to snuff yet, even the $7000 & up models. Now Canon & Nikon SLR's were great & still are. DSLR's are a crap shoot, the quality isn't there.

Ive had mine for a couple of months and it is amazing the color available with a 30 second single exposure. m57 show full color, (attached to meade acf 12"). 30 seconds is the longest measured setting without hooking up to a computer. bulb setting is manual
Really nice, I'm experimenting when I get a chance.
One thing to keep in mind,,, there is a series of lenses labeled as "L", they are professional quality and price shows it.

I just purchased a Canon 60Da last week. The instructions that came with it are only for the 60D. I tried it out at a star party and the thing just jammed up on me. I set it to BULB, pushed on the shutter release and it just whirred a couple of times but no exposures?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to settings, ISO's, or exposures? Right now I'm a bit lost. I had to go to my backup camera for the night's shooting.

Hi Melissa, Congrats on the 60Da. Looking to get one one these too. Zoom Lenses are not a crisp as Fixed Lenses, but zooms have a wider use. If you can use a fixed 300mm for astro work, including the eclipse then go for that one. I used a zoom at 250mm for the transit. Images a bit soft on enlargement but ok, I am happy with them. Let me know what you buy, and keep me posted on your progress with he 60Da. Alan.

Congratulations on the New 60Da. Thinking of getting one too. Let me know how u go. I have just shot the Transit of Venus with a zoom lens and Baaader Solar Film, at around 250mm, full extension. I am Happy with the images, but not as good as I wished for. All zooms I have used do not seem to have the quality of a fixed lens of the same length. I think you will get better images with a fixed lens, 300mm. But it is expensive to buy a fixed lens for one purpose only. Will you shoot with this lens again?? If so then go for the fixed lens. A zoom, you can use for a lot of photography, more use. Let me know what you choose. Cheers Alan.
