    Talkin' Baseball!

This thread is all things baseball! I encourage all fans of the game to participate.  Please start by introducing yourself and by showing some luv for your favorite team. Include some memorable pictures if you'd like and be sure to leave a caption describing the action. What are the other favorite teams in your teams division? How about in the other league? Whats your favorite part of the regular season? I'm a BIG fan of Interleague Play. If you enjoy it too, what team would you like your team to play in that they have not played yet?

My favorite team is the Chicago White Sox. The pictures included with this post are from the 4 game sweep of the 2005 World Series vs the Houston Astros. Also included are pictures from the spirit Chicagoans showed the players during the parade thru downtown Chicago after their amazing season and finally bringing home a baseball championship trophy! My other A.L. favorites are the Anaheim Angels, Minnesota Twins and the suprising Tampa Bay Rays. As for the N.L., I like the Chicago Cubs (when they are not playing any of my other favorites, and of course the White Sox) Florida Marlins, Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies.

My favorite part of the regular season is Interleague Play vs the Cubs. We play them 6 times a year and for most fans everywhere of Chicagos baseball, there is no better or more intense rivalry anywhere. When the Philadelphia Phillies come to town or vice versa, its always a slugfest. As far as Interleague matchups that I have yet to see, I want to see the White Sox play a Sunday night game at Washington. I honestly thought in 2005 it would be a White Sox/Nationals World Series. I'd also like the Sox to play the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Florida Marlins again.

My favorite team is the Red Sox. Since a young kid, I stuck with the team through thick and thin since I was born and brought up 20 miles south of Boston.

My most memorable events(s) was when they won the World Series  the first time in some 80+ years and again three years later.

Team members may come and go but the fans are the backbone of every team.

My favorite times are during the play-offs and especially when the Red Sox are playing in the World Series

If your talkin` baseball, then I'm talkin` Phillies. Statistically the hottest team in the league right now. Hopefully they can break the curse of William Penn this year. Here are my two favorite memories.

Other teams I'll root for when they're not playing my Phils are, Colorado, Arizona, Chicago (Sox) and the Angels.

I'd like to see them spank the Yanks someday in interleague play. I know they played them last year but they went 1-2  I wanna see a sweep someday.

I've been a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs for over half a century.  The White Sox I suppose are my favorite team in the American League, although I would have to disagree that any Cubs/Sox rivalry or inter-league games in general are important.  They’re just distractions from the real action.  For Cub fans, the big games are with National League Central Division rivals such as the Cardinals, Brewers and Astros.

My greatest experience as a fan was attending the double-header with my Dad and my brothers on 2003 SEP 27.  The Cubs clinched the divisional title that day by defeating the Pirates twice.  It was a surreal experience as 40,000 fans did not reduce their cheering for over half an hour as the Cubs won their first title of any sort in front of the home crowd after 70 years.  It was also the last Cub game for my Dad, a lifelong Cub fan, who was visiting from his retirement in California.  He passed away in 2005.

Each month during the baseball season I create a Cubs schedule calendar that can be downloaded as your computer's desktop background wallpaper.  To see it, click:  http://www.curtrenz.com/cubs.html

Although I dont get to watch Basball as much as I would like, the Seattle Mariners have been a fav of mine for  along time. An acquaintance of mine at University came from Seattle and would take me to a local bar to watch them play and I have been  hooked ever since. Its agreat way to spend a rainy day here.

Been a baseball fan all my life (or at least as long as I can remember).  First major league game I saw was the Philadelphia Athletics against the Detroit Tigers in 1953.  I get to several Braves games a year, but mostly follow our local Rockies Class A affiliate, the Asheville Tourists (that's the team Crash Davis was playing for when he set the minor league home run record [Bull Durham ].  Picture I took at a Braves games a couple of years ago:

My team are the Flushing Bums.

Don't even mention the other team to the northwest serviced by the other subway line.

Even though they've been playing like bums, I think there's still hope yet, though I think some percentage of their problems are that the New York sports media are the way they are; if a guy goes two for five, they want to know why he didn't connect safely the other three times.  Remember, they're the real bums who even chased Tom Seaver out of town.

My favorite team, since their inception, is the AZ D-Backs.

I'm a baseball purist, I'm against the DH, Interleague play, and Instant Replay. However, I'm also a pragmatist and I realize that the DH and interleague are here to stay...we'll see about instant replay. BUT only if it's for home runs.

When I was a kid the Brooklyn Dodgers were often called the Bums by their fans.  When they first moved to Los Angeles the joke was, Los Angeles:  City of the Angels, Home of the Bums.  Which New York team is now referred to as the Bums?

I'm pretty sure that the Dodgers are still known as the Bums.

    Heh heh...

... it depends on who's losing worse, and they're the no good bums!  These days, the bums aren't in Brooklyn or the Bowery anymore; they're at either Shea or Yankee stadiums, oftentimes in the stands!

My favorite NL teams are the Phillies (did I really say that?), the Pirates, and the Giants.  In the American League, I like the Red Sox, the Indians, and the Orioles.

I suppose my MLB highlight was seeing Reggie Jackson play in the 1978 World Series.

At the local level, I enjoy watching the Harrisburg Senators play at City Island.

Hey Dave ever get over to a Reading Phillies game ? Every year where I work we rent a bus (20-30 of us) and drive out from philly to catch a game.  It's a great time! Best Sausage, Pepper & Onion sandwich you'll ever have!  We'll stand out in the left field beer patio, stay till the 8th or 9th inning then head over to Al's Diamond Cabaret for a few hours.

Yes, I've been to First Energy Stadium, which is a great ball park boasting some unusual attractions.

My LSU Tigers were eliminated from the CWS yesterday, so I'll devote all my baseball energy to our local Asheville Tourists who just won the first half championship of the South Division of the Sally League (Whew!).  Already got my tickets for the playoffs in September.

    Re: Talkin' Baseball!

I grew up in Harrisonville, MO.  That's south of Kansas City about 30 miles.  My parents and I always made it to three or four games a year.  That was back in the day of Amos Otis, Freddy Pautek, Frank White, George Brett, etc.  Kinda when the Royals were the fairly big boys out of the West and the dreaded Yankees were the Eastern Division's team to beat.  And when the Royals weren't the farm club for the rest of the league.  We would always get tickets right behind the dugout.  Got quite a few "hey kid"'s from the players coming in after warm-ups along with a few autographs.  Where did those days go?

I don't really have a favorite team.  I have teams I strongly don't like.  The Yankess being one of those.  I'm ashamed to say it, but down deep, It gives me the warm fuzzies to see them not doing so well now.

Not a big fan of interleague play.  I don't know if I'm a traditionalist or what.  The only time an AL team should play an NL team is in the World Series.  I'm not a proponent of the DL either.  Any player that steps on the field should have to bat also.  A lot less strategy and managing in the AL because of the designated hitter.  But, no matter what league you support, it's still baseball and that's good enough for me.

The Yankees have struggled in the first half of the 2008 season.  But they are showing signs of life.  If they can get all their players healthy at once, they still may make the World Series.

    Re: Talkin' Baseball!

It's September and it's a race for the MLB Pennant and Wild Card! Is your team in it this year? If they are, what team are you worried about the most?

My White Sox are fighting Minnesota for the division or the Red Sox for the Wild Card. The team that worries me most IF we make it to the playoffs are the Tampa Bay Rays. They are the team to beat in the A.L. The Angels and Red Sox are a close second. In order to beat our opponents, we have to play our style of ball with confidence as a team and do all the little things and fundamental things to perfection.
