Laura Layton, Associate Editor
![]() While attending college, Laura served as observatory manager at Davis Hall Observatory in DeKalb, Illinois, and held staff positions at Karl G. Henize Observatory in Palatine, Illinois, and Mount Laguna Observatory in the Cleveland National Forest about an hour outside of San Diego, California. She also lectured in astronomy at NIU in the physics department and conducted astronomy laboratory classes at San Diego State University in the astronomy department. Her wide range of astronomy interests includes observational astronomy, astrophotography, planetary science, large-scale structure, and developing hands-on astronomy activities for public outreach programs. Her editorial background includes science writing and a position as copy editor at Today's Local News in San Marcos, California. Most recently, she was a developmental editor at The Brain Store in San Diego, California, where she commissioned and edited scientific books. She joined the Astronomy staff at the end of 2005. As associate editor, Laura contributes to the magazine's popular "News" section. She also edits features on planetary science and the hobby of astronomy. |
