Official Rules: Astronomy magazine's Space Travel Essay Contest
1. No purchase necessary. The official beginning date for Astronomy magazine's Space Travel Essay Contest is January 22, 2005. Astronomy magazine's Space Travel Essay Contest is open to residents of the United States and Canada (except Quebec) only. Employees (and their dependants and immediate household members) of Kalmbach Publishing Co., its advertising and promotional agencies, and participating sponsors are not eligible to participate.

2. To enter Astronomy magazine's Space Travel Essay Contest, write an original story, approximately 500 words in length, about where you believe space travel is headed over the next 35 years, and mail your entry with your name, address, city, state or province, zip or postal code, and telephone number to: Astronomy magazine's Space Travel Essay Contest, P.O. Box 378, Waukesha, WI 53187-0378. Or enter via e-mail by sending your entry, along with your name, address, city, state or province, zip or postal code, and telephone number to contest@astronomy.com. Incomplete e-mail messages are void. One entry per person. The official ending date for Astronomy magazine's Space Travel Essay Contest is April 15, 2005, and all entries must be transmitted or postmarked no later than that date.

3. Prizes and odds of winning. Judging will begin on or about April 25, 2005, for the following awards: One Grand Prize consisting of an Orion SkyQuest™ XT6 IntelliScope® (retail value $359.00). Three prizes consisting of Moonpans.com 23" by 8" inch Apollo 14 LEM 12-o'clock Panoramas signed by astronaut Edgar Mitchell (retail value $125.00 each). Cash equivalents of merchandise will not be awarded. Substituting prizes is not allowed. Any applicable federal, state and/or local taxes are the responsibility of the winner. Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received. Total circulation for Astronomy magazine is 136,457. Contest void in Quebec and void where prohibited.

4. Validation and acceptance. Winners in Astronomy magazine's Space Travel Essay Contest will be selected and judged by the Astronomy staff and Edgar Mitchell, whose decisions are final. Canadian prize awards subject to skill test requirement. By entering the contest, participants agree to be bound by these official rules and all decisions of the judging organization. Contest entries void if not legible, not completed in full, not obtained legitimately, or if forged, plagerized, photocopied, mechanically reproduced, late or tampered with. The potential winners must sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, publicity release, and Release of Liability within fourteen (14) days of notification. In the event of noncompliance, alternate winners will be selected. No responsibility is assumed for lost, stolen, misdirected, late entries, or notifications. All contest entries become the property of the sponsor and will not be returned.

5. Winner's list. For a list of winners, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: Astronomy magazine's Space Travel Essay Contest Winners List, P.O. Box 1612, Waukesha, WI 53187-1612. Residents of FL, VT, and WA may omit the stamp. Requests must be received by June 1, 2005. Or check Astronomy.com after May 15, 2005.

6. Kalmbach Publishing Co. shall not be liable for any injury, loss, damage, cost, or expense arising directly or indirectly, in connection with the contest and the prize awarded.
