The Beehive Cluster

The open star cluster most observers call the Beehive (M44) lies within the boundaries of the constellation Cancer the Crab. In fact, from a dark site the cluster is often easier to spot than the faint stars outlining the constellation. M44 lies about 600 light-years away. (4-inch Takahashi FSQ-106EDX refractor, SBIG STT-8300M CCD camera, RGB image with 1 hour of exposures through each filter)
