Aquarius and Piscis Austrinus - Downloadable article

Lying squarely in the autumn void away from the Milky Way, the Water-Bearer and Southern Fish are chock-full of faint galaxies.

Celestial Portraits Package 2 downloadable PDF
This downloadable article is from an Astronomy magazine 45-article series called "Celestial Portraits." The collection highlights all 88 constellations in the sky and explains how to observe each constellation's deep-sky targets. The articles feature star charts, stunning pictures, and constellation mythology. We've put together 11 digital packages. Each one contains four Celestial Portraits articles for you to purchase and download.

"Aquarius and Piscis Austrinus" is one of four articles included in Celestial Portraits Package 2.

As the center of the galaxy in Sagittarius departs with the arrival of autumn nights, you may be tempted to follow the Milky Way northward. At the same range of declinations as the busy "downtown Milky Way" region but culminating a couple months later are Aquarius and Piscis Austrinus. With hardly a recognizable star pattern to be found, it's no wonder this part of the sky is passed up. It shouldn't be, as there are plenty of objects to see in Aquarius. To read the complete article, purchase and download Celestial Portraits Package 2.
